It is located at a key transportation point at the junction of the old Nakasendo and Koshu-dochu (currently Koshu-kaido), and the sacred hot spring water flows from the hand basin on the grounds. The Neiri Cedar, which is said to be 800 years old, is one of the sacred trees of Shimosha Akimiya. The beautiful carvings in the Haiden were created by Kazushiro Tachikawa, a master craftsman from the mid-Edo period, and were completed in 1781. Both the Heihaiden and the Kaguraden have been designated as important cultural properties of the country.
